WIC employees must complete the required training before performing their duties. Policy TR:03.0 outlines training requirements. Each agency needs to appoint a training coordinator who is responsible for ensuring that appropriate and timely training is provided to its agency staff and recorded for review.

TR: 03.0 Required Local Agent Training/Summary (PDF) (Revised on January 5, 2017)

Employee training resources are available on Texas WIC Employee Training (WIC employee learning management system).

Additional guidance on training requirements is provided in the supplementary training requirements chart below.

The chart below is a guide to the training topics and the timeline for completing each policy. These are designed to help employees obtain appropriate and timely training before performing their duties independently. If you have any questions about training policies or completing training in accordance with these guidelines, please contact your designated LA training coordinator.

At the Texas WIC Training Center, you will be able to view the trainings you have registered, attended, or are currently viewing. In addition, people designated as Texas WIC training administrators at your local institution will be able to retrieve reports, activate and deactivate employees, reset passwords, etc. (see our short, instant training for help).

You must be logged into the system by a Texas WIC training administrator or Texas WIC training administrator to start viewing and tracking training. If you are not sure, please consult your WIC supervisor.

After entering the system, please visit the WIC Training Center and log in with your email. You can use the "My Calendar" or "My Training" function to view all your training in the "Home" tab. Most other functions and tabs will be inaccessible.

In the Texas WIC training catalog, you can view all the trainings offered, learn more about trainers, and view and register for training.

Visit the Texas WIC training catalog and scroll through the training you want to register or view. You can filter the training using the popular tags on the right, or view the training in the calendar view by clicking the "Date View" option just above the popular tags.

After you find the training you want to view, click "Register". Please be sure to use your registered email and password to register for this training.

If you did not use the correct login name when filling out the form, or you accidentally entered the wrong login name, it will think you are a "guest", which means that it will not allow you to participate in certain trainings and will not track your Attendance training.

Tip: If you log in to the Texas WIC Training Center while viewing the catalog, it will recognize you and speed up registration.

If you are a WIC worker and need technical assistance, please email the WIC LMS administrator or call 512-374-6371.

If you are a WIC supplier and need help, please contact 800-252-9629 or send an email to WICVendorInfo@hhsc.state.tx.us.

On-site webinars are a great way to interact with on-site trainers and can be easily found under the "Webinars" tab in the training catalog. The online webinar will be open approximately 5-10 minutes before the scheduled training begins. It is recommended that you log in as early as possible to allow enough time to resolve any technical issues you may encounter.

Some webinars are not allowed to be late, and you may not receive credit for attending. If you have specific questions, please contact the instructors listed in the training catalog.

If no participants log in to the training within 5 minutes of the scheduled start time, the webinar will be cancelled.

Some trainings have been approved to provide continuing education units for WIC employees who participate, stay throughout the training, and complete the evaluation. Click on the "Continuing Education" tab in the catalog to easily access and view the training details and understand the specific time information for each course.

For on-site training, the presenter will guide you on how to apply for continuing education units. Once the state agency has verified attendance and participation in the field training, the certificate will be sent to your Los Angeles administrative office quarterly. The recorded training can choose to download the certificate of completion.

If you have any questions about CEU, please contact us.

If you are having difficulty accessing content using assistive technology, please send an email to accessibility@hhsc.state.tx.us and we will be happy to help you.

In the Texas WIC real-time online training program, you will be able to see all the real-time online training that we must provide in the coming months. The registration link for each training is included in the timetable. This schedule will be updated monthly.

Texas WIC Impact Training (POI) is available to all local WIC employees. The training emphasizes the importance of emotion-based information and human behavior in helping customers enjoy the WIC experience, achieve goals, and celebrate success. Learning the principle of influence has proven to improve job satisfaction because it allows WIC employees to build nutrition education and counseling skills and take them to a new level.

Step 1: Applying to host the training is easy! Texas WIC directors can register by completing an online impact training application. This information helps us prepare for successful training with your local agency.

Step 2: Coordinating logistics After receiving your application, state agency staff will contact you to arrange training for your agency. General training information:

Step 3: Participate in training to learn how to use the six principles of influence. Local agency staff will also receive materials designed to help implement these principles into their daily interactions with customers.

Step 4: Implement and celebrate! The following resources are exclusively for use by local institutions in the professional development process after training. Re-examining the principles and discussing implementation will help expand the enthusiasm and long-term sustainability of the POI.

For more information on impact training, please contact Beatrice Watson, a nutrition education expert at WIC Texas at beatrice.watson@hhs.texas.gov.

These face-to-face courses are for Texas WIC employees and may not be applicable to other agencies or institutions; however, anyone can take breastfeeding courses. There are different venues for on-site training. Please refer to each individual training for more information.

Several face-to-face breastfeeding courses were provided for WIC staff and healthcare providers. Visit the breastfeeding course page for more information and registration.

This training aims to assist WIC directors, assistant WIC directors, and financial/financial personnel in the operations, policy management, and financial aspects of the WIC organization. Get more information and register for the upcoming welcome event here.

The Nutrition and Breastfeeding Conference is an annual event for WIC employees, providing WIC with continuing education opportunities, innovation, motivational speakers, networks, etc. The meeting is open to all WIC employees; however, the nutrition education coordinator and breastfeeding coordinator must attend the NBF meeting or be an approved replacement (according to policies BF:02.0 and NE:02.0).

The meeting was held in Austin, Texas. For more information, please send an email to WICGeneral@hhsc.state.tx.us.

For information about Texas WIN 101 and other automated classroom training provided, please contact the automation trainer Rueben Gámez at 512-341-4409.

The WIC partner training site provides community partners with the opportunity to participate in free online training, which can be completed on your own time and schedule.

Why did Texas WIC develop this training platform?

Texas WIC is your community partner! As part of our commitment to public health education, we understand the barriers related to training, scheduling, and costs. Providing high-quality, free training allows consistent information transfer between all organizations and provides better opportunities to improve the health of Texas families. We plan to provide a wide range of training topics, including breastfeeding, nutrition, and other public health topics.

Some training will provide CE credits. Please check the website for details.

Does the WIC partner training website allow me to track my education?

No, the website does not track personal training. You will receive a certificate at the end of each training with the CE provided. Please note: The certificate can only be printed once. Make sure you are connected to a printer before starting the training, or just take a screenshot of the certificate to print later.

Please visit the WIC Partner Training website to learn more about the available training. If you have more questions, please send an email to: WICPartnerTraining@hhsc.state.tx.us.
